Cardinal Tagle new prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of People

Cardinal Tagle

The leaders of the Church of Tomorrow live in Africa and Asia. This is the motto of the Institute of Missiology in Aachen. With the appointment of Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila as Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of People in the Vatican, this vision has once again come true. The Institute of Missiology supported him at the beginning of his career with a scholarship to study dogmatics in Washington (1987 - 1991). His thesis dealt with the development of the concept of episcopal collegiality since the Second Vatican Council. After completing his doctorate, he was given various tasks. In 2001 he became bishop of the Imus diocese in the Philippines and in 2011 he was appointed archbishop of Manila. In 2012 he received the cardinal dignity. He participated in various Synods of Bishops in the Vatican and was, among other things, President of the Extraordinary Synod of Bishops on the family. In the course of time he received many other tasks in the Vatican.

In special connection with our former MWI scholarship holders, we congratulate Cardinal Tagle for this new task and we wish him God's blessing for the accomplishment of this new task.
