Foundation of the Institute of Missiology Missio e.V. on the initiative of the International Pontifical Mission Society e.V.

1972
Confirmation by the German Bishops Conference.

1974
First-time participation at the German Catholic Day ("Deutschen Katholikentag").

Recognition by the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.  

1982
Second time participation at the German Catholic Day ("Deutschen Katholikentag").

1991
MWI is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a colloquium. 

2003
With the award of a prize to Agnes Brazal from the Philippines, for her article "Beyond the Religious and Social Divide. The Emerging Mindanawon Identity", for the first time a woman from Asia is awarded a prize. She is awarded the "Religious Identity and Migration" prize for contextual theology and philosophy.

2005
Benefit Concert for Rwanda. 10 years of genocide in Rwanda and war in Central Africa.

2007
With the participation at the foundation of the Center for Religious Studies in Ho-Chi-Minh-City, the interreligious dialogue finally also spreads to communist Vietnam. This marks the realization of an important goal.

2007
In the same year, the MWI organizes a benefit concert for the scholarship holders in Lebanon.

2010
Benefit Concert for Indian scholarship holders organized by the MWI and missio Aachen e.V.

2011
The MWI is celebrating its 40th birthday with a colloquium in Bonn.

2020
Dissolution of the Institute of Missiology and fusion of the Institute of Missiology with The International Catholic Mission Society missio e.V. New name is Institute of Missiology of missio e.V.

2021
50th birthday of the MWI

2022
PD Dr. Dr. Thomas Fornet-Ponse was elected as new director of the MWI.
