In co-operation with its partners, the MWI decided to launch a long-term project with the aim of evaluating the curricula of theology and philosophy in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe from a contextual and intercultural perspective. The Conference to Evaluate the Curricula of Theology in Asian Contexts (CECTA), held in Bangkok from December 1st to December 6th, 2002, was the Asian theological part of this comprehensive project. The Asian Christian Higher Education Institute in Hong Kong Baptist University, an Asian office of the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia, joined as a co-organizer and co-sponsor. This Institute has selected the most Protestant participants and contributed to make this conference ecumenical. Theologians in Indonesia (John M. Prior, SVD) and Pakistan (Chrys McVey, OP) organized preparatory national meetings and sent delegations to the continental conference.
