Contours of contextual theologies from Oceania

"Contours of contextual theologies from the Pacific" simply wishes to present to the theological world the initial stages of our search for theologies that are relevant to the Pacific peoples. What we have now is perhaps best described as "contours" of contextual theologies. In this attempt, we need to do away with two obstacles. Firstly, to dismantle completely the notion that we are too small and insignificant to produce any worthwhile theology. Secondly, we need to have courage and confidence to venture into this field. Despite these initial difficulties, we have developed what we have come to call Coconut Theology; the Theology of the Maneaba; the of the Vanua (Land); the Theology of the Weavers (lalanga); the Theology of the Moana (Ocean) and Frangipani.These concepts are far from being fully developed in their theologi­cal significance. However, the process has begun.
