Since its beginnings it has been MWI’s
intention to also support financially the theological and
philosophical awakenings in Africa, Asia, Latin America and
Oceania. This is done through a succession of academic
projects of a
differing kind: Scholarships in Theology, Philosophy and related
disciplines for students from Africa, Asia and Oceania. Since its
founding the Institute has been able to support and advise on
almost 600 doctorates, not only in Europe but also at a study
location in the South. In order to promote an exchange between
those studying, annual meetings are organised at various venues in
Europe. The doctorands who are being supported by the MWI are to
contribute later in their respective countries as professors or
part-time lecturers to the further development of an inculturated,
contextual theological way of thinking (approx. 50 % of
funds).Research
projects and programmes which promote
contextual theologies and philosophies in the Third World (approx.
10 % of funds). Specialist
conferences on international and regional levels
(approx. 28 % of funds) Publication of theological and philosophical
literature (approx. 7 % of funds). Specialist
libraries: Provision of books for theological
and philosophical purposes (approx. 3 % of
funds). Exchange of qualified
teachers as initial aid for young theological
and philosophical institutes and universities (approx. 2 % of
funds).
The
financing of the projects and the work of the MWI
occurs exclusively
through donations for academic purposes.These
profit from especially low taxability in Germany and are taken into
account for up to 10 % of income.
