    In the seventies (1971-1980) the MWI focused on the reception of theological and philosophical awakenings in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Oceania, as well as on their comprehensive documentation and transportation into the European context. The bibliographic magazine Theology in Context became in 1979 the concrete fruit     of these endeavours.

    1971:       Founding of the Institute of Missiology Missio e.V. (3rd November 1971)

    1971:      Founding of the Reference Library of the MWI

     

    1972:      Confirmation of the MWI through the German Bishops’ Conference

     

    1974:      Editing and joint publication of the “Zeitschrift für Missionswissenschaft und Religionswissenschaft”    

                (ZMR) , with the International Institute for  Missiological Research“ (IIMF) (until 1989)

     

    1974:      Editing and joint publication of the series “Missionswissenschaftliche Abhandlungen und Texte”, with 

                 the International Institute for Missiological Research (IIMF) (until 1985)

     

    1978:     Recognition of the MWI by the Congregation for the Evanglization of the Peoples (Propaganda Fide)

     

    1979:     Publication of the first issue of the annotated bibliography “Theology in  Context” (until 2002)
